W.W. Smith, 91, died on March 2, 2020 at Asbury Park in Newton, Kansas.
W.W. Smith was born on April 17, 1928 in Macksville, Kansas to Alta Agnes (Runyon) and Jewell William Smith.
W.W. was a retired Railroad Conductor. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion and lifetime member of the V.F.W. In retirement he enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at the Whistle Stop Café in Walton and McDonalds. At a convenience store in Walton he met his future wife, Nancy Goertzen. They were married in September, 2006 and were married for thirteen years prior to his passing.
As a couple, they enjoyed dancing and were active in the V.F.W. and the American Legion. W.W. was a mandolin and fiddle player and he enjoyed playing pool. He was a cattleman for most of his life.
He is survived by his wife: Nancy Smith; daughter: Melanie Smith; grandchildren: Aily Rischar and Matthew Crow; great grandchildren: Dorothy and Michael Rischar. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jewell and Alta Smith and his son: Michael Smith.
A graveside committal service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Walton City Cemetery. There will not be a public visitation. Petersenfamilyfuneralhome.com.
