Wade Stroble

Wade Alan Stroble, 68, of Newton, Kansas, died on August 11, 2026, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas.

Wade was born on April 5, 1958, in Larned, Kansas, to Robert "Bob" and Valetta Stroble, and was raised in Newton.

Wade spent most of his working life self-employed in vacuum sales and repair, owning shops first on Broadway in Newton and later in Placerville, California. People came in as much for Wade as for the vacuums — some customers bought their belts one at a time just so they'd have a reason to come back and visit. He got along with everyone he met.

He was happiest outdoors. He raised his kids on camping trips and fishing runs that started before the sun came up, and when the family set out to see some far corner of the country, Wade packed everyone into the blue van and simply drove — straight through — until they were there. He was never one to talk much about his faith, but he had it, and he always seemed nearest to it outside, early, with a line in the water.

For years, Wade started his mornings over coffee at his parents' kitchen table. When anyone in the family needed looking after, Wade was the one who came — and kept coming, for as long as he was needed. He rarely said what people meant to him; he showed them, steadily, in ways they never had to ask for. The people around him smiled more and carried less because he was there. And in his final years, when it was Wade who needed looking after, family came for him the same way — folding him into their lives, keeping him close, and returning the kind of care he had spent a lifetime giving.

Wade is survived by sons, Charlie (Barb) Stroble and Jacob Stroble; daughter, Kristin (Ryan) Rohr; brothers, John Stroble and Robert "Bob" (Lisa Graber) Stroble, Jr.; sisters, Jan Plummer and Julie (Kent) Taylor; six grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dylan Stroble; and sister-in-law, Lisa (Hurt) Stroble.

A funeral for Wade will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Newton, Kansas. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the church. Memorials are suggested to Caring Hands Humane Society and may be left in the care of Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, Kansas.
