Steve M. Hayes 68, died Sunday, January 7, 2024 at his Newton residence.  He was born August 17, 1955 in Wichita, Kansas to Walter and Twila (Allen) Hayes. On April 2, 1977 he married Susan Criddle at Layton, Utah and she survives of the home.

Steve was the long time owner of Heritage Furniture in Newton, Kansas. As he grew the business many customers became friends.

He was an avid Beatles fan and collected memorabilia throughout the years.  "Imagine", "All You Need Is Love" and "Let It Be" were especially meaningful Beatles songs to him, Steve also enjoyed Poker and played at various casinos and at friend's homes.  

His greatest joy was his family and being a loving husband, friend, brother and "Uncle Steve" to many.

He is survived by his wife Susan of the home; brother Kelly Hayes, sisters Becky Marcus and Kathleen Hayes and many nieces and nephews which he adored.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, sister Linda Riggins and brothers Glen and Allen Hayes.

A gathering and visitation with family will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 19th at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends' from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at   The celebration of life for Steve Hayes: The American Legion Newton January 27 2-6 pm                 

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society and left with Petersen Funeral Home.
