May 29, 1958 — October 31, 2025

Newton

Sandra "Sandy" Diane Flaming died peacefully on October 31st, 2025 at ComfortCare Homes in Newton, Kansas.

Sandy was born in Newton, Kansas on May 29th, 1958, the second child and only daughter of Dorothy and Gilmer Stubby. Sandy attended school in Newton, Kansas, graduating from Newton High School in 1976. She then attended Sidney’s Hairdressing College in Hutchinson, Kansas from 1977-1978.

Sandy had four children she was especially proud of, and absolutely doted on her grandchildren, covering them with kisses every chance she got.

Sandy was a hard worker, often juggling several jobs with varying schedules. She worked on and off in cosmetology throughout her life and she owned and ran Starlite Skate Center from 1988-2012. Her years at the skating rink were some of her favorite years. She was a lover of conversation and she built relationships with community members, kids of all ages, employees, vendors, and the list goes on. A fan of all types of music, she enjoyed spinning records and CD’s at the skating rink, including her favorite genre, country-western, and her all time favorite singer, Elvis Presley.

Sandy loved animals and it was important to her to see each of her pets through as long of a life as possible. She cared gently for many aging animals over the years. Sandy had many hobbies and interests including sewing, crafts, caring for her houseplants, spending time at the lake, reading Stephen King novels, gabbing on the phone, and enjoying an ice cold Pepsi.

Sandy is survived by her brother, Terry Stubby and wife Kim, of Helena, Montana; son, Brent (Natalie) Flaming, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Morris, of New Braunfels, Texas; daughter, Kristal Flaming of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Dustin Flaming, of Newton, Kansas; niece, Brandi (Ryan) Butler, of Helena, Montana; and grandchildren, Summer, Jodi, Abigail, Payton, Michael, Bennett, Dakota, Alexi, Jackson, and Brooks.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Gilmer and Dorothy Stubby.

Services for Sandy will be held at a later date.
