Sally J. Montgomery 83 died July 17, 2026, at her Newton residence. She was born on August 17, 1942, in Newton, Kansas to J.D. and Callista McClelland. She married Samuel D. Montgomery on January 6, 1973, in Newton and he preceded her in death.
Sally lived a life of service to others. She worked as a beautician, railroad transportation driver and found great pleasure serving mentally handicapped adults. She enjoyed playing pool, bingo, reading and traveling. She was also a lover of history and could be found fishing or riding motorcycles.
She went to St. Mary Catholic School in Newton where she sang in the Choir. Sally was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, 101 Club, VFW and Eagles.
In her younger years she coached girls fast pitch softball. Sally will be remembered for her love of family and friends and her willingness to help those in need.
She is survived by her son Samuel Montgomery; daughters Belinda (Joe) Anderson and Jennifer (David) Schuck; brother Donald (Barb) McClelland; sisters Sandra Kay Gates and Donna Eikenbary. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Albert McClelland; sister Callista (Kit) Moor, grandson Daniel Barber and a daughter Francis Sue Miller.
A celebration of life will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday July 25, 2026, at the 101 Club in Valley Center.
Memorials may be made to Habitat For Humanity and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
