Ruby Maxine (Ediger) Stucky, 87, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 while she was residing at Kansas Christian Home, Newton, Kansas. Ruby was born November 10, 1938 in Goessel, Kansas to Ed and Elvina Ediger. She was raised in Newton, attended Newton schools and was a life-long member of First Church of the Nazarene.
She married John Stucky of Burns, Kansas, on October 17, 1958. They have three children, Monica (Dan) Spinder of Eldorado, Kansas, Noreen (Dave) Anderson of Campobello, South Carolina, and Jarrett (Brenda) Stucky of Newton, Kansas. She was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Corbany, Addyson, Greyson, Ashlynn, Kale, Rylan, John, Phoebe, Nolan and Lainey.
Preceding her in death is her parents, Ed and Elvina, her husband, John, sister Evelyn and her husband, Chester Hartman; brother, Clifford, and sister-in-law, Patricia (Pete) Ediger. Ruby is survived by her brother, Pete Ediger of Newton, sister, Betty Ediger of Newton, and sister-in-law, Diana (Clifford) Ediger of Hillsboro. She also has two surviving Stucky sisters-in-law; Faye (Joe) Stucky and Alice (Dan) Stucky.
Ruby loved teaching the kindergarten Sunday School class at the Nazarene church and faithfully served in that capacity for over 40 years. She loved the children at that age… watching them grow physically and spiritually. She also sang in the church choir and especially to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ruby was very proud of her working career outside of the home as well. She served 30 years as Executive Secretary and Administrative Assistant at Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Newton Medical Center and the Newton Community Healthcare Foundation. She later became the Development Assistant at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. Even after she retired, she was a volunteer at Newton Medical Center for quite some time.
In her free time, she loved decorating and flower arranging. Her basement, before moving to Kansas Christian Home, was filled with many totes of silk flowers and décor. She was also a great cook and loved to bake. Ruby is well-known with family and friends for her cinnamon rolls and pies. As a seeker of knowledge and a wordsmith, you could always find her doing crossword puzzles. Ruby was artistic, creative and last but not least, she sported a witty sense of humor.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 10:30 AM at Newton Nazarene Church, Newton, Kansas. A lunch will be held in the Nazarene Family Life Center following the service. All are welcome. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM at the Burns Countryside Church Cemetery in Burns, Kansas.
