Ronald LaMonte Malek

Ronald "Ron" LaMonte Malek, 67, passed away on May 28, 2026. Ron was born in Newton, Kansas to Richard (Dick) Malek and Virgie Adams. He graduated from Council Grove High School in 1977.

From 1983 to 1989, Ron represented the United States as a professional boxer in the super welterweight division. His dedication and competitive spirit inside the ring reflected the perseverance, wisdom, and heart he carried throughout his life.

On December 21, 1992, Ron married Debra Malek in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ron will always be remembered for being a goofy, fun, loving man, who enjoyed his coffee and car karaoke, singing to his favorite old songs.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Malek; his mother, Virgie Adams; his mother-in-law, Myrtle Cary; his children, April Reed, Ryan Malek, Kyle Malek, and Hannah Malek; his brother, Rodney Malek; and his grandchildren, Jarell Malek and Laken Sowell.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard "Dick" Malek; his father in-law, Frankie Cary; his brother, Rick Malek; and his child, Taylor Malek.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made out to Petersen Funeral Home, to be given to Ron's family and used as they need.
