Robert (Bob) D. Swickard, age 85, passed away August 9, 2025 at his home in Newton Ks. He was born May 19, 1940 in Newton, Ks to Melvin and Pauline Swickard (Dillon).
He married Sharon K. Ritchie (Merical) August. 20, 1961. They had two sons Ron Swickard and Roger Swickard. He married Janice (Jan) Emerson on December 18, 1982 and then Bob gained another son, Sterling Emerson.
Bob attended Newton High School where he participated in band and was drum major. He graduated in 1958. He was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church where he held numerous positions throughout the years. Bob was also an active member in the Lions Club for many years and received the Melvin Jones Fellow award.
Bob worked at DMH (Newton Plant) for 25 years. After retiring he owned and operated the Trivet Restaurant and then owned and operated Grandpa’s Computers.
Bob enjoyed photography and was rarely seen without a camera. He loved to work on computers and talking with people in his shop. He also enjoyed listening to Gospel music and really enjoyed the Gaither Vocal Band. Bob also loved planning, organizing, cooking and serving the Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner for many years.
Bob is survived by his wife Janice and three sons, Ron (Sheryl), Roger (Kristi), and Sterling (Kristina) . He is also survived by one brother, Jack, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother and a brother, Dick.
Memorial service will be held at Salem United Methodist church on Friday, August 15 at 2:00pm with a reception following the service.
Memorials may be given to Salem United Methodist Church and Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Peterson Funeral Home.
