Richard Paul Meister

March 26, 1948 — November 22, 2025

Newton

Richard Paul Meister of Newton, Kansas passed away Saturday, November, 22nd at ComfortCare Homes of Newton. Born in Chicago, Illinois March 26, 1948, Rich relocated to Newton in 1979 to lead an international business that is still a major employer in the city today.

In his global career experience, Rich spent many years advancing in the work field of manufacturing and engineering, becoming Vice President of Operations. Later branching out into other fields as a business manager for medical treadmills and business owner in precision machining, tool and die. A great listener for his employees, as a leader, he naturally treated others equally regardless of position or level.

He was a devoted husband and father who was always there to offer guidance, love, and words of wisdom when it mattered most. He made it a priority to attend all his children's activities, and he could always let loose to bring fun to all situations, especially during family trips to Silver Dollar City and Lake of the Ozarks. Few things made him happier than being “Papa’’ to his grandkids, who brought a smile to his face even in his final days.

Known for his deep laugh and reserved sense of humor, Rich was a proud member of the Wichita Toy Train Club and Museum, and lifetime Corvette owner and enthusiast. His love for Christmas traditions brought joy to Newton families through the annual light display on Hickory Court, which he coordinated with his son Christopher.

He is survived by his wife, June, of 45 years, daughters Hilary and Mellony, and sons Christopher, Eric, and Jason. His memory will live on among his 9 grandchildren.

A visitation will be held December 1st at Petersen’s funeral home in Newton from 5pm to 9pm and the rosary will start at 6pm. The service will be at St. Mary at 10am December 2 with a graveside service following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Caring Hands Humane Society, Wichita Toy Train Club, and Saint Mary Catholic Church in Newton.
