Peggy L. Reusser, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024, at the age of 88, surrounded by her family in her home in North Newton, Kansas. Born on February 15, 1936, in Newton, Peggy's life was a testament to love, service, and adventure.
Peggy married her husband, Loren, in 1954 and together they raised three daughters Sharon, Judy, and Susan (Pechanec) Reusser in Hesston. She cherished her family deeply and was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren, including Renee Dinsmore and JP Greenwood, Stephen Dinsmore, Stephanie and Tyler Ryan, Jennifer and Gary Boles, Reed and Billye Hammond, Krystal and Cole Dark, and Justin Pechanec. Her legacy also includes her great-grandchildren, Kelly and Chloe Dark, Annabelle and Andrew Boles, Cooper, Charlie, and Parker Hammond.
Peggy graduated from Walton High School in 1954 and spent time dedicated to ministry as a passionate member of the Mennonite community. She participated in two missionary assignments with the General Conference Mennonite Mission, serving in Taiwan from 1966 to 1969 and in Hong Kong from 1985 to 1987. She worked as a secretary before and after her time of service at Hesston College, Hesston Corporation, and Eastern Mennonite College.
In the early 1990’s, Peggy embraced an adventurous career as an 18-wheeler truck driver, a profession she pursued with pride until her retirement at the age of 79. When she wasn’t trucking, she was bagging homemade kettle corn for multiple fairs and events across the state. She enjoyed knitting, needle point, puzzles, games of all kinds, was an enthusiastic supporter of Bethel athletics, and enjoyed cuddling and spoiling her dogs CB, TR, and DR. She also loved traveling, exploring destinations such as Switzerland, India, China, and nearly every state in the USA.
Peggy was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon, parents, Alice and Roy Stout, and her sister Betty Guthrie. She leaves behind a rich legacy of love and resilience, touching the lives of many through her kindness and unwavering faith. Peggy was a cherished member of Hope Mennonite Church in Wichita and most recently of Faith Mennonite Church in Newton.
Her warmth, spirit, and devotion to her family will be profoundly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. A celebration of her life will be held at Faith Mennonite Church on November 11, 2024. The viewing will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. and a lunch immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) or Bethel College in Peggy's memory.
