Neoma Koehn
Neoma Ruth Jantz began life’s journey on May 13, 1929 at Hesston, Kansas. She peacefully passed away at Moundridge, Kansas on May 24, 2020 just a few days after her 91st birthday. She was the first born of Dan S Jantz and Elizabeth Ratzlaff Jantz. She attended school in Hesston and Moundridge areas. She was baptized November 21, 1943 at Lonetree by Minister Frank Unruh. God and the Church were precious to her all of her life.
At the age of eighteen she moved with her parents to the Elbing, Kansas area and attended church at Burns, Kansas. It was here she met her future husband, Arnold Koehn. They were married January 29, 1950 by Minister Norman Eicher at the little brown church in Burns. This union lasted sixty-seven years until her husband passed away in April 2016.
They started their married life in the Burns community on the farm. Mom very much enjoyed her life as a farm wife, working outside in the field and driving wheat truck to Elbing Grain. Another highlight in mom’s life was working at Central Services in Bethel Hospital, Newton, Kansas.
Mom was a social, upbeat person, loving to have lots of company and had friends at every stop. Also, their trip to Israel was an extra special memory in mom and dad’s life.
Some special memories the family shares are lots of backyard picnics, and the extra thought she put into family. She had lots of spunk in a quiet way and is remembered for her “fire and wit”.
She especially enjoyed the years they lived in Newton after they left the farm. Mom’s sunset years at the Moundridge Manor were spent patiently and without complaint.
Those left to cherish memories are, Stanley (Jeanie) Koehn, Colcord, Oklahoma and Geneva (Roger) Koehn, Burns, Kansas. Seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one sister Margie Jantz, Newton, Kansas, one sister-in-law, Fern Jantz, Montezuma, Kansas, and special family friend Lena Koehn, Newton, Kansas. Also remaining family members from her husband’s family are three brothers and three sister, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one infant son and two brothers
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Eden Mennonite Church in Burns. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Eden Mennonite Cemetery.
