Michael Dean Flickinger, 58, of Newton, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2026.

He was born in Wichita, Kansas, February 22, 1968, to Ron and Shirley Flickinger.

Mike grew up in Wichita and attended Wichita Public Schools, as well as Kansas State School for the Deaf in Olathe, KS. While in high school he received his Eagle Scout. He went on to attend Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. While he did not obtain his degree, he enjoyed his time there and made many long-lasting friendships.

Mike began his career at Raytheon Aircraft as a machinist in 1990 and worked there until his recent retirement.

Beyond his career, family and friends, Mike was a passionate man who truly loved life and had deep faith. He was an avid biker, and video gamer. He also loved spending his free time with the deaf community. He purchased Hunter’s Landing to establish a meeting place for the Wichita and Hutchinson area deaf community. Mike will be remembered for his warm personality, generous nature, sense of humor, and willingness to help others.

Mike is survived by his father, Ron; brother, Ryan, and Ryan’s wife, Tonya; nieces & nephews; Bethany Charlsen, Lauren Ortiz, Max Flickinger, Abigail Weihe, Maggy Weihe, and Emma Flickinger. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Flickinger; as well as his sister, Stacey Weihe.

A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Newton, Kansas, on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM. With Pastor Chip Bungard officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday July 2, 2026, at Petersen Funeral Home.

Private family interment will be in the Halstead City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Association of the Deaf in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
