Marilyn Davis

Apr 8, 1951 — Aug 22, 2026

Newton, Kansas

Marilyn R. Davis, 75, died August 22, 2026, at NMC Health in Newton, Kansas. She was born April 8, 1951, in Halstead, Kansas to Lacy and Vera (Bence) Holdeman. On September 1, 1973, she married John W. Davis in Newton, he survives of the home.

Marilyn had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She could talk to anyone—and usually did—and never met a stranger. The Shop was her favorite gathering place, often more than her own home, and its doors were always open to family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who happened to stop by.

She was an active member of the 4-H community, a part of her life that brought her lasting friendships and countless memories. She also loved the outdoors. As a young girl, she spent countless hours riding her Shetland Pony, Rusty, and was fortunate to have him for an incredible 29 years. Later came the love of her life, John, and together they enjoyed dove and deer hunting, camping, and boating—making memories and enjoying life together before their greatest adventure began: raising their two children, Jed and Lacey.

She loved good music, especially George Strait, and had a special talent for finding joy in the little things. She could spend hours browsing craft shows, discovering treasures while thrifting, or carefully decorating her parents’ graves for every season. She also cherished reconnecting with her sisters and making new memories together during the fun times they lovingly called “Sister’s Day.”

She was also a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, each holding a special place in her heart. Most recently, she was blessed with the title of Great-Grandma.

Marilyn was a strong woman who faced life’s challenges with courage and determination. Throughout it all, she continued to find joy in the people and things she loved.

These simple traditions reflected the thoughtfulness, creativity, and love she carried with her throughout life. Her laughter, generosity, welcoming spirit, strength, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. She lived a life full of family, friendship, adventure, and love— and she leaves behind a legacy that will continue through the generations.

A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the Halstead City Cemetery in Halstead, Kansas with Sam Dyer officiating. Following the service, friends may join the family for a meal and celebration of Marilyn’s life at the Volunteer Hall located at Harvey County East Lake.

Memorials may be made to Central Care Cancer Center and left in the care of Petersen Family Funeral Home.
