Margaret Eugenia Seltenrich Smith May 20, 1933 - July 30, 2026

Margaret Eugenia Seltenreich Smith, 93, of Newton, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, in California.

She was born May 20, 1933, in Newton, Kansas to Floyd Seltenreich and Opal Spencer Seltenrich. She lived in Newton all her life until 2023, when she moved to California to be with her son for care.

Margaret worked at Hehr International in Newton for over 40 years and at Dillons Grocery Store for over 10 years. She also loved working at the Newton American Legion for Bingo every Thursday night for 10 years, where she made many friends.

She loved taking care of her yard and garden every year and took great pride in it.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Smith; her father, Floyd Seltenreich; her mother, Opal Spencer Seltenreich; her brother, Floyd “Junior” Seltenreich; and her sisters, Mildred Seltenreich Prouty and Donna Seltenreich Hill.

She is survived by her only child, Kevin E. Smith of California.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main St., Newton, KS 67114, with Pastor Chip Bungard officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton, Kansas
