Lucille Mandanna Spangler, (Lucy), 96, born January 18, 1927, seventh child of Louie Frank and Mary Lillian (Williams) Spangler, at the home place in Butler County, East of Elbing, Kansas. Lucy passed away January 21, 2023 at Paramount Community Living in Newton, Kansas.

Lucy went to the Fairmount Dist. #24 School through the 8th grade, then went to Peabody High School and graduated in 1945.

Lucy married Lloyd Burton Shepler on June 30, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas by minister, J. Lindy Russell. They had 55 years of married life living in Peabody, Kansas, except for 2 years when they lived in Newton, Kansas in 1959 & 1960. They had no children.

Lucy has worked for a café in Peabody and 8 years at Paramount Products in Peabody; Shurtz Manufacturing in Wichita for 8 years and at Westview Manor Nursing Home in Peabody for 25 years, in the laundry room.

Her hobbies were fishing, sewing and crafts, baking, and having a good laugh.

Lucy was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #95 in Peabody since 1961.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 4 brothers, Joe, Merle, George, and Frank Spangler and 2 sisters, Hazel Ford and Alta Kafton. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at Petersen funeral home, 215 North Main Street, Newton, Kansas on Saturday, February 4, 2023 between 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Graveside services are being held by Minister Galen Drier of the Moundridge Hopefield Church on February 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairmount Lonestar Cemetery, 3/12 miles of Elbing, 1 mile South and ½ mile East, Butler County, Kansas.

Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, Kansas oversaw the arrangements.

Memorial Contributions may be given to the Peabody Avenue of Flags.
