March 27, 1947 — January 1, 2026

Newton

Linda (Sowards) Neufeld, 78, entered eternal rest on January 1, 2026, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's. Born on March 27, 1947, in Ashland, Kansas, to Luther and Opal (Myers) Sowards, Linda's journey of grace and compassion touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Having spent her early years in Pueblo, Colorado, and Medicine Lodge, Kansas, Linda's heart found its true home in Newton after the sixth grade. She was a prairie flower in the 1957 Peace Treaty pageant, a cherished memory that reflected her deep connection to her roots and community. Linda was a proud member of the Newton High School class of 1965, a testament to her dedication and perseverance.

Rooted in faith, Linda accepted Christ into her life in 1975, a moment that illuminated her path with love and purpose. Her life was a testament to selflessness and unconditional care, demonstrated through her work as a CNA and medical assistant, as well as her unwavering commitment to helping others in need.

On a night not unlike any other, while taking out the trash, Linda crossed paths with Henry Neufeld, a meeting that would sow the seeds of a love that would last a lifetime. They exchanged vows in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, on October 10, 1982, embarking on a journey of shared love and companionship.

Linda's devotion to her community was unwavering. From organizing charitable initiatives at church to volunteering at the Salvation Army, she extended a hand of kindness to all she encountered. Linda's talents extended beyond caregiving; she found joy in crafting wreaths and floral arrangements, collecting Newton and Coca-Cola memorabilia, and being a dedicated member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Linda is preceded in death by her dear parents, Luther and Opal, her beloved husband Henry, and her brothers Luther Jr. and sister-in-law Mary Sowards, Robert Sowards, and Marc Fresh. She is survived by her loving daughter Bethany Neufeld of Newton and her grandson Tyler Neufeld, who brought immense joy and pride to her life.

Linda's legacy of faith, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew and loved her. As she rests in the arms of her Savior, may her soul find eternal peace and her memory be a source of solace for all who mourn her passing.
