Linda Rae Lind, 78, passed away at her home in Newton, Kansas on May 28, 2026 following a recent illness.
She is survived by her husband, Lanny, of the home; son, Christopher (Amy) of Kansas City, Kansas; son, Matthew of Overland Park, Kansas; sister, Jacky (Hal) Martin of Fort Scott, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Her parents and sister, Robin, preceded her in death.
Linda was born on June 16, 1947 at Neosho Memorial Hospital, Chanute, Kansas, the first daughter of L.W. (Jack) Hixon and Winona Hixon. She graduated from Iola High school in 1965 and attended Iola Junior College. Linda married-for-life Lanny L. Lind on September 03, 1967 at her parent’s home in Iola, Kansas.
The couple lived in Arma, Kansas while Lanny attended Kansas State College of Pittsburg. Following Lanny’s graduation, they moved back to Iola where she worked at Hixon’s Office Supply, as a proofreader at the Iola Register, as office manager with MIDCO Construction in Chanute, and led the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in Iola. She was active with The Iola Jaycee Jaynes where she made many life-long friends throughout the community. She loved the weekly coffee klatch with the women of Northwestern Street in Iola as well as the projects and offices she held with the Jaycee Jaynes. She loved everyone, and everyone she met was eager to become her friend. When she smiled, her entire face smiled, a friend once said.
While living in Iola she and Lanny were blessed with the birth of their children, Christopher in 1971 and Matthew in 1973. Linda spent her life loving those boys and later, daughter-in-law, Amy. Her life revolved around family, immediate and extended.
In 1985 the family moved to Newton, Kansas where Linda continued her career working as an assistant to an attorney and later as the office manager with Lentz Eye Care in Newton until she retired in 2007. During her retirement, Linda enjoyed buying and selling antiques and collectables with Lanny for years. The couple also enjoyed the hobby of investing together, finding success in the stock market.
The family will receive friends at Petersen’s Funeral Home in Newton on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. A celebration of life will be held at the Iola Masonic Lodge on June 13, 2026 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The Masonic Lodge is located at 213 W. Madison, Iola.
