Lewis Oliver Twyford Jr. 77, died November 17, 2023, in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born September 3, 1946, in Liberal, Kansas to Lewis Oliver Sr and Gene (Bryan) Twyford. On September 21, 1979, he married Paulette E. Hunter at Lyons, Kansas and she survives of the home.
Lew retired after 35 years from Eaton Corporation. He attended Wichita State University, Pittsburg State University and Hutchinson Community College. He served his country in the United States Navy and was a member of a search and rescue helicopter crew during the Vietnam War.
He was an avid guitarist and shared his love for music, creating lasting memories with family and friends. Lew was a compassionate man who had a deep love of animals. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of both two legged and four legged friends.
Lew was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, and he leaves behind a legacy of caring and compassion to the next generation of family.
He is survived by his wife Paulette; daughters: Michelle (Shane) Guthrie; Wendy (Jim) Bockstoce; Kristy Twyford and Terri (Kevin) Davis; sister Judy Schremmer (Doug) and his cat Scruffy. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lew is preceded in death by his parents and sister Viola Twyford.
A graveside service with military honors will be announced at a later date and will be held in the Winfield Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas.
Memorials may be made to the Caring Hands Humane Society and left with Petersen Funeral Home.
