Leona G. Clithero 103 died January 21, 2024, at Kansas Christian Home. She was born October 15, 1920, in Pawnee Rock, Kansas to Lawrence and Martha (Schultz) Koehn. Leona married Ralph Killion in 1945 and had 2 children before his passing in 1953. On April 8, 1957, she married Vernon Ray Clithero in Newton, Kansas and he preceded her in death on December 2, 2009, after 52 years of marriage.
Leona was a charter member of the Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton. She retired as a teller at the former Midland National Bank in Newton after nearly 30 years of service. Following her retirement Leona and Vernon traveled to several overseas destinations. eventually moving to Kansas Christian Home Campus in Newton. While living at KCH she remained active in the KCH Auxiliary and took part in many activities on campus. She enjoyed making new friends and participating in coffee groups on campus. Her passion was sewing, and she made many pieces that were shared with family and friends through the years,
She is survived by her son Allen (Judy) Killion of Plano, Texas, and daughter Bonnie Mosier of Newton, Kansas; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband Ralph Killion and second husband Vernon Clithero; her parents and two brothers Earl and Galen Koehn,
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton with The Reverend Kent Little officiating. Private family interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton.
Memorials may be made out to Trinity Heights United Methodist Church or Kansas Christian Home and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home
