LaVeta D. Williams 92 died March 12, 2024, at Paramount Greenhouses in Newton, Kansas. She was born June 5, 1931, in Newton, Kansas to Alfred and Pearl (Phillips) Scheffler. On January 26, 1957, she married Robert I. Williams in Nortonville, Kansas and he preceded her in death on October 14, 2013.

LaVeta was a longtime active member of the Salem United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and farm wife working alongside her husband on their farm East of Newton.

She is survived by her son Neal (Sheila) Williams; grandchildren: Tonya (Tom) Cowan; Ryan (Jay) Williams; Nathan Williams, and great grandchildren Colbey,  Kyleigh Williams Taysley Cowan, Tate Cowan, Maci Williams, and Layla Williams

LaVeta is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Steven Williams.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2024, at Salem United Methodist Church in Newton with Pastor KiBum Kim officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Petersen Funeral Home. Family will be available from 1p-3p to meet with friends.  Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas.

Memorials May be made to the Salem United Methodist Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
