Lyonel (Ray) Young, 90 years old, of Nixa, Missouri, died September 29, 2021 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo.  Ray was born 8-11-1931 in Rose Hill, Ks to Austin and Clara Young.  He is survived by his wife, Cecelia, daughter Rae Ann (Randy) Kingsley of Cape Fair, Mo, brother James Young of Az, grandson Jason of Hutchinson, great-granddaughters Olivia Kingsley of Cape Fair, Mo and Madison Grimes of Wichita, Ks.  He is preceded in death by both parents, sisters Virgie Young and Norma Lee Hall, daughter Diana Young and grandson Chad Kingsley.

 

Ray graduated from Winfield High School and joined the Navy in 1950 from which he retired in 1971 and moved his family back to Rose Hill, Ks. Ray was a graduate of Wichita State University obtaining a Master of Education Administration degree.  He worked for the Kansas Dept. of Revenue until 1996.  He was a member of the Butler County Volunteer Fire Dept. during which he became a certified EMT. Ray had a lifelong devotion to God and was a member of many Baptist churches throughout his life. Ray was very active with the Mason’s becoming a Master Mason along with membership with the Royal Arch Masons and is an Endowed member of the Wichita Consistory, Scottish Rite Masons and the Newton Lodge #142, AF&AM

 

Services will be held at 10:30 on October 16, 2021 at the Friend’s Church in Rose Hill, Ks with internment following at the Rose Hill Friends Cemetery with Navy Honors at the graveside committal services

 

Memorials to the Kansas Masonic Oncology Research Center, at the KU Medical Center, in care of the Petersen Family Funeral Home, Newton, Ks.
