Kyle Baymiller

d. December 23, 2022

Heaven welcomed a new resident as Kyle L. Baymiller stepped into eternity and into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 23, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.

Kyle, age 64, was the third of five sons born to Carol and Kurt Baymiller. Left to mourn him are his mother, Carol Schecher of Rapid City, SD; his wife, Duranda of Newton, KS; brothers, Doug of Hudson, SD; Kris (Deborah) of Hutchinson, KS; Jon (Peggy) of Lenoir City, TN; and Eric (Karen) of Carmel, CA.

He is also survived by son Christopher (Jen) Bolin and their two sons, Jack and Emmett of Morristown, CO; son, Maxwell Baymiller, PhD, of Ann Arbor, MI; and stepson, Justin Converse (Erika) of Wichita, KS, and Maxwell’s mother, Janet Yates, Silver City, NM; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces. He was loved by all and will be especially missed by his wife, Duranda, and his twin brother, Kris.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kurt Baymiller, stepmother, Teola, and stepfather, Leroy Schecher.

Kyle graduated from Watertown High School in 1977, excelling in debate. He went on to spend a year in the US Navy ROTC program at Tulane University and received a Bachelor of Arts from University of Sioux Falls.

Later in life, Kyle found his groove as a machinist with Bunting Magnetics in Newton, KS, and AGCO Corporation in Hesston, KS, where he was active in the United Steel Workers. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and by the grace of God obtained many years of sobriety. He was a deep-thinker, a voracious reader and an advocate of social justice. He loved riding and tinkering with his motorcycle. Most of all, he loved people, never met a stranger, and would give you the shirt off his back.

A Celebration of Life will be held January 11, 2023, 7:00 pm, at Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main Street, Newton, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge, 1120 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64105.
