Kathryn (Bachman) Penner passed away Saturday, December 30th, 2023, at the age of 96 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas.

Kathryn was born November 10, 1927, to Ernest and Prisca Bachman. She married Don Penner on December 9, 1949. Church activities played a significant role for Kathryn throughout her life. She enjoyed travel with Don. She loved quilting and made quilts for her children and grandchildren as well as quilts for the MCC Sale with a group of dear friends. During her employment years she worked at Meadowlark Homestead, Western District Conference Offices in the Mennonite Church, and Prairie View. Her life was so enriched by her numerous friendships and close family members.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her loving husband Don, her parents Ernest and Prisca Bachman, brother Dale and sister-in-law Elda (Wiens), sister Florene and brother-in-law Kenneth Wiens, sister Elaine Goertzen, brother Donovan and sister-in-law Helen (Goertzen), brother-in-law Joe Penner and sister-in-law Florene (Riesen). She is survived by son Gary (Lisa), grandson Jason Scarff (Mandy), grandson Daniel (Danielle) and great-granddaughter Aubrey; daughter Jeanne Schmidt (Ralph), granddaughter Renae Peters (Jason), great-granddaughters Myra and Celia, grandson Jason (Carol), great-granddaughter Greta and great-grandson Ethan, granddaughter Jill Schmidt (Ben Gerig), great-grandson Jude, daughter Cathy Penner (Greg Bartel), grandson Creigh (Gaelle), grandson Landon (Erin), sister-in-law Carol Claassen (Olin), brother-in-law Irvin Goertzen, and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

Memorials have been designated for Mennonite Central Committee and First Mennonite Church Newton, in care of Peterson Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS 67114.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3rd at First Mennonite Church in Newton Kansas , with her remains interred in Greenwood Cemetery.
