Jose “Joe” Corona 94 died surrounded by his loving family on September 18, 2021 at his Newton residence.  He was born June 11, 1927 in Waukegan, Illinois to Gertrudes K. and Casimira (Gutierrez) Corona. On August 30, 1947 he married Cecelia Estrada at Newton, Kansas and she survives of the home.

Jose retired as a crane operator for the former Santa Fe Railroad and was a faithful member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He served over 25 years at the church in Adoration every Friday night for an hour of praying.  He was the biggest sports fan, especially the Royals and KC Chiefs.  He was always willing to help whenever he could.  He took his brother and brother in law to the doctor’s appointments whenever they needed

He is survived by his wife Cecelia of the home; daughters Gloria DeLeon, Ramona (Larry) Watson and Rachel (Saeid) Hamidi; sons Esteban Corona, Robert Corona (Maria), Richard Corona and Joseph Corona (Susan); two brothers Frank and Lupe Corona. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Gavino and Jose Corona and 3 sisters Georgia Arellano, Esther Davila and Ramona Corona .

A graveside service with military honors for the family will be held in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery Newton with The Reverend Jorge Lopez presiding. There will be no public visitation but a register book will be available for friends to sign from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday September 23rd at Petersen Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Care of Petersen Funeral Home.
