With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jim Jones on March 28, 2026. Jim was born on July 10, 1938, in Peace Valley, Missouri, to Ivo Jones and Ruth Jones. He was a longtime resident of Sedgwick, Kansas.
Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle whose life was filled with music, laughter, and a deep love for the game of softball.
Jim had a lifelong passion for softball, spending countless hours on the field playing, competing, and sharing his love of the game with those around him. Whether he was swinging a bat, cheering from the sidelines, spending time playing ball with his nephews, or reminiscing about games with friends and family, the sport was a true joy in his life.
Music was another cornerstone of Jim’s life. As the proud owner of Yesterday Disc, he created more than just a store—he built a place where people could come together over their shared love of music. He also spent years promoting concerts, bringing excitement and connection to his community. In his quieter moments, Jim enjoyed playing the card game Pitch, a pastime that brought laughter and friendly competition to those around him. Music wasn’t just something he enjoyed—it was something he lived and loved to share.
Above all, Jim was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Jones; his children, Brenda Wapp; Ruth LeValley (Scott); Sherree Wallace (Joey); and Jack Jones (Linh).
He was a proud grandfather to Jenna Verble (Zach), Dr. Cameron Wapp (Hope), Jennifer Coleman (Matt), James LeValley, Richard A. Blunck, Amber Bass (Johnny), Rebecca, James Stroer, Jessica Stroer (Lori), Robert Jones (Savanna), Breanne Unruh, Rachel Merino, and Anna Jones, as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivo Jones and Ruth Jones; his daughter, Jeanne Ann Jones; his granddaughter, Audrua Blunck; and his sisters, Edith Green, Audura Thomas, Dolors Jones, and Imo Willis.
Jim will be remembered for his kind heart, his passion for life, and the way he brought people together—through sports, music, cards, and family. His presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Jim will have a funeral service at Petersen funeral home on April 11 at 1pm.
