Jerold "Jerry" L. Young

Oct 6, 1958 — Oct 22, 2026

Halstead

Jerold L. "Jerry" Young, 68, passed into the arms of Jesus on October 22, 2026. He was retired from the trucking industry where he served as a professional driver, driver trainer, dispatcher and terminal manager.

He was born in Wichita, Kansas, on October 6, 1958 to John and Lillian Young.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dennis, Merle, and John; and sister, Rita.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Candi; sons, Jeremy Young and Justin Young; daughter, Lesley McKown; son-in-law, Levi McKown; daughter-in-law, Kennetta Gilreath; and 5 grandchildren: Jacob McKown, Jeremiah McKown, Ryker Young, Amelia McKown, and Audrey McKown.

Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, puttering around on his Kubota tractors. He and Candi spent the last several years caring for their herd of rescue horses and he utilized his tractor skills in that endeavor, too. He enjoyed sports of all kinds and shocked his family when he admitted his love for the New Orleans Saints that started in childhood. He was speechless when they won the Super Bowl.

His greatest love was his family, and he was so happy the last few years to watch his grandchildren play and grow.

He will be remembered for his quick sarcastic wit and ability to make people wonder if he liked them or not. He could always make you laugh, and his humor will be sorely missed by those who loved him.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, Kansas. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick. Memorials are suggested to Chammy's Equine Sanctuary, and may be left in the care of Petersen Funeral Home.
