Harley Mohler

April 16, 1938 — September 28, 2025

Newton

Harley Francis Mohler, 87, of Newton, Kansas, passed away on September 28, 2025. He was born on April 16, 1938, in Scott County, Kansas, to Emil Clarence Mohler and Doris (House) Mohler.

Harley grew up working hard and never really stopped. He started farming at age 12 and eventually owned and operated his own farm. He graduated from Shallow Water High School in 1956 and later attended Northwest Kansas Technical College, where he trained in plumbing.

In 1957, he married Emily Elaine Rose. The two raised a family and built a life together through work, change, and a few big moves.

After selling the farm in 1977, Harley retrained as a construction plumber at Goodland vo-tech and moved his family to Dillon, Colorado, to work in the trade. In 1980, he returned to Scott City and started his own plumbing business. A few years later, in 1985, he took a job at a natural gas compressor station near Holcomb, Kansas. He retired in 2000 from Enron, formerly Northern Natural Gas.

Retirement didn’t slow him down much. Harley bought a camper and spent several years traveling the country inspecting gas pipelines.

He was a long-time member from his youth of Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend, Kansas. Harley and his wife also held membership at the Halstead First Mennonite Church

Harley is survived by his wife of 68 years, Emily Elaine Mohler; daughter, Gail (Rodney) Belflower of Choctaw, OK; son, Jeffrey (Susan) Mohler of Edmond, OK; and one brother, Larry Mohler of San Jose, CA. He is also survived by His granddaughter Allison (Thomas) Krakeel and great grandchildren Caiden, Alexander and Ella. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Emil Mohler Jr.
