Floyd H. Price, a dedicated educator, lifelong learner, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the Kansas Christian Home. Born on April 10, 1930, in Locke, Arkansas, Floyd’s life was a testament to commitment both to his family and to the pursuit of knowledge.
Floyd’s formative years laid the foundation for a life steeped in learning, a value deeply instilled in him by his mother, Nina McCook Price. He attended North High School in Wichita, Kansas, before continuing his education at Friends University, Wichita State University, George Peabody Teachers College in Nashville, Tennessee, and the University of Oklahoma. His academic journey reflected his passion for education, a passion that became his life’s work.
Following his service to his country as a photographer in the United States Army stationed in Japan after World War II, Floyd embarked on a distinguished career in academia. He served as the Department Chair of Curriculum Instruction at Kansas State University, dedicating 34 years to shaping the minds of future educators. His tenure there was marked not only by his professional achievements but also by the friendships he cultivated, including warm moments spent with colleagues during coffee breaks on campus.
On July 20, 1952, Floyd married Phyllis McGuire in Wichita, Kansas. Their partnership was one marked by shared joys and quiet moments, including their mutual enjoyment of their sunroom and the simple pleasure of feeding and watching birds around the Kansas Christian Home campus. Though Phyllis preceded him in death, the memories of their life together remain a treasured part of Floyd’s legacy.
Floyd’s personal interests were rich and varied. A passionate gardener and antique collector, he especially enjoyed restoring old furniture, bringing new life to cherished pieces from the past. In his younger years, he found joy in fishing and camping, pursuits that offered him a connection to nature and reflection.
Family was paramount to Floyd. He was a devoted father who treasured his relationships with his children, eagerly anticipating visits with his daughter, Margaret and her husband Chuck O’Brien, and his son, Charles Price, and his wife Lisa. He is also survived by his two grandchildren and two great children that he cherished. His presence was a source of love and support for his family, reaffirming the importance he placed on these bonds throughout his life.
Floyd was known for his friendly and welcoming personality. He took genuine delight in making new friends and actively participated in the Kansas Christian Home campus community, where his warmth and kindness made a lasting impression. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom; it was a passion that permeated every aspect of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Price and Nina McCook, his beloved wife Phyllis McGuire Price, and his sister Doris Reeves. Floyd leaves behind a legacy of love, learning, and friendship that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
