Our beloved mother, Fern Koehn, 94, of Newton, passed away at home on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Born in Liberal, Kansas on August 5, 1930, she was the eldest daughter of Henry and Anna (Vogt) Epp. Fern’s family moved to Newton shortly after she was born. She attended Newton public schools and worked at Graves Drug Store, while in high school.
On November 2, 1947, Fern married Paul H. Koehn in Newton. They were married 71 years, until Paul’s death in 2019. She was a homemaker and assisted Paul with their vacuum cleaner business.
Fern was a long-time member of the First Mennonite Church of Newton. She was a wonderful example, to children and grandchildren, of what it means to live your faith.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and making her yard and home look beautiful. Fern was an excellent cook and was always prepared to welcome and serve an excellent meal to family and friends who dropped by, expected or not. Her family was truly blessed to have such a strong and loving woman in their lives.
Fern is survived by Scott H. and Debora (Schierling) Koehn; Steven P. and Tammy (Phillips) Koehn; Sherrill L. Martinez; Sandra S. and Daniel Moses; and Shawn R. Stroble; 22 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley R., husband of Nancy (Pauley) Koehn, and two sisters, Joan Janusz and Hazel Mullen.
