Elizabeth Luna, 56, passed away on April 8, 2026 surrounded by the family she cherished so deeply. Born on November 19, 1969, the youngest of her siblings, Elizabeth grew into a woman defined by public service, fierce compassion, and a lifelong commitment to caring for those who needed it most. Her heart was especially devoted to youth in the foster care system and to advocating for individuals with special needs – work that reflected her belief that every person deserves dignity, safety, and a champion in their corner.
Elizabeth found joy in the simple, meaningful rhythms of life. She loved spending time with her entire family, whose laughter and closeness were her greatest treasures. She relished long naps, binge-watching her favorite shows, and anything connected to Dolly Parton, whose warmth and wit matched her own. But the absolute greatest joy of Elizabeth’s life was her daughter, Lita Anastacia Luna-Baker, whom she loved dearly.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Lita Luna-Baker (Kate); her grandchildren, Reid Thomas Luna-Baker and Roman Banks Luna-Baker; her siblings, Ed Luna (Rosanne), Anita Victory (Rex), Amelia Luna, Loretta Luna, and Vincent Luna (Stacy); her companion, Lewis Thompson IV; and many nieces and nephews whom she adored, and they will carry her memory forward with love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Reda Luna (Holcomb); and her brother, Miguel Luna.
A Rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton, Kansas. Burial will take place afterward at the Valley Center Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate the life of a woman whose kindness touched so many.
Elizabeth’s legacy is one of kindness in action – the kind that changes lives quietly but profoundly. Her family will forever remember her fun laughter, her unwavering loyalty, and the way she placed others’ needs before her own. May her memory be a gentle reminder of the power of compassion, and may the love she gave so freely continue to shine through all who were blessed to know her.
A memorial has been established with Caring Hands Humane Society in Newton, honoring Elizabeth’s deep love for animals and the gentle compassion she showed throughout her life. Donations may be left with Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
