Elsie Jane Troyer (Koehn), 101, passed away peacefully at home in Newton on May 19, 2025. She was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Cimarron, KS, to parents, Abe and Matilda (Schultz) Koehn. She was the 7th of 10 children. Elsie married Ora Jacob Troyer on October 23, 1939. Together they had 5 children. They owned and operated Ever Ready Cab Co. in Newton, from 1955 to 1972. She also worked at the Woolworth’s lunch counter for over 20 years during the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. She moved to Arizona in 1976 to be closer to her mother, brother and sisters. She then moved to California in 1982 and lived with her sister Margie. Elsie returned to Newton in 2016. She loved all kinds of crafts and was an avid card player. Baseball was her favorite sport to watch, especially when the San Francisco Giants or Kansas City Royals were playing. When she was able, Elsie loved to travel. She visited the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Korea. Even with all her travels, she always said that Kansas had the best sunsets. Everyone who met Elsie came to love and adore her. She was a beautiful, loving person with a warm smile and infectious laugh. Elsie is survived by 3 of her children, Sue (Jerry) Hopkins of Newton, Pam Fields of Newton, and Janet (Wayne) Giesbrecht of Little Rock, AR, 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Ora, her parents, Abe and Matilda, all her siblings, Ann, Evelyn, Forrest, Henry, Agnes, Julia, Liz, Margie, and Doris, her daughter Donna Logue, son, Terry Troyer, and his wife Mary. A graveside service will be held at Restlawn Cemetery, US-50, Newton, on May 23, 2025, at 11:00am. Memorials to benefit Traditions Health Hospice, 915 E. 30th, Suite 200, Hutchinson, KS 6750
