Dr. Darryl Edgar Matter was born March 20, 1940, at Marysville, Kansas. He was the only child born to Murray Edgar and Mary Gladys (Bodge) Matter. He died on April 9, 2026 at Kidron Assisted living.
Darryl publicly confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was received into full membership of the First Brethren Church in Portis, Kansas, on August 7, 1949.
He graduated from Portis High School in 1958. In 1964 Darryl Graduated from Kansas State University with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He earned a M.S. degree in Family and Child Development/Counseling from Kansas State University in 1966 and a Ph.D. in Human Development Education from the University of Maryland in 1971.
Darryl was united in marriage to Roxana Marie Warren on September 1, 1980. They had no children.
While Darryl worked briefly as an engineer, most of his professional life was spent in higher education as a teacher and counselor. He authored or co-authored 37 professional articles and over 450 avocational features (including 107 puzzles), many of which were illustrated with his photographs. In addition, he was credited with 16 feature photos used in magazines and newspapers.
His professional memberships included the American Psychological Association, the American Association for Counseling and Development, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the American Association of University Professors, and the Georgia Association of Teacher Educators. Honorary affiliations included Omicron Nu and Phi Delta Kappa. At Darryls request there will be no visitation or formal funeral service and no memorial offerings made in his name.
