Donald Harrold

August 25, 1938 — April 25, 2026

Donald John “Don” Harrold, 87, of North Newton, Kansas, passed away on April 25, 2026, at Newton Medical Center.

Don was born on August 25, 1938, in Fowler, Kansas, to Freda and Roy Harrold. He grew up in Sedgwick, Kansas, and graduated from Sedgwick High School. He later earned a degree in Administration of Justice from Wichita State University in 1979.

On December 30, 1960, Don married the love of his life, Marilyn (Kliewer) Harrold. Together they shared 65 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and unwavering support for one another.

Don dedicated his career to public service, serving as a police officer with the Newton Police Department from 1961 to 1989. Over the course of his distinguished career, he rose through the ranks to become a Detective and Captain, earning the respect of the community he served.

Don had a deep appreciation for hands-on craftsmanship, nature, and the living world around him. He loved woodworking, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He had a special fondness for animals, especially squirrels and his beloved pets. One of his quieter joys was watching butterflies hatch from caterpillars—a reflection of his curiosity and appreciation for the beauty and intricacy of life.

Above all, Don valued his family. He was always willing to stop and help anyone in need, and his kindness and steady presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Kliewer) Harrold; his daughter, Susan Hall; and his granddaughter, Emily Baker.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janna Harrold; his grandson, Maxx Hall; his parents; and his siblings.

An informal Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Bethel College Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall.

Don will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
