Darrell F Mosiman

June 16, 1959 — August 16, 2023

Newton

Darrell Floyd Mosiman was born June 16, 1959 in Newton, Kansas to Aaron and Arlene Mosiman. When he was 12, Darrell asked Jesus into his heart and was baptized.

Throughout his life, Darrell enjoyed many activities, one of which was garage sales!  When he was young, he went to his first garage sale near his home.  He promptly came and asked his mom for a quarter, because he had found something that he wanted to give her.  Darrell was thoughtful in that way.  He had a giving heart, and loved to give his mom gifts, even if it was a bouquet of dandelions from the yard!  And by the way, that visit to the garage sale?  That got him hooked!  After that Darrell had a life-long love of garage sales—so much so, that people around town got to know him, because he came around so often!

Something else that Darrell really loved was the vacations that he took to visit Aunt Loretta, and he tried to go at least twice a year.  They enjoyed antiquing and shopping together, and he was always picking up treasures for his great nieces and nephews.  Everyone in the family always knew that if they needed something, they could tell Darrell, and he could find it for them!

Another highlight for Darrell was when Brooklyn came to spend the day with Grandma Arlene.  Darrell and Brooklyn got to be great pals.  He would bring boxes with treasures, and they would sit and go through them… and even better, Brooklyn would get to take treasures home with her!

In his younger years, Darrell enjoyed baseball and he played the position of catcher, and he was good at it.  In fact, when he was in 5th grade, he even hit a home run!  Afterward, his reward for it was a banana split.  The next day, however, he had a stomachache, which turned out to be an appendix attack that resulted in surgery.  He always blamed that banana split, and he never ate another one!

Darrell was handy and enjoyed tinkering and working with his tools.  In high school he was in the carpentry class and helped build two houses that are here in Newton.  After he moved to his house on Fairview in 1998, you could sometimes find him at All Metals in Newton looking for parts for his go-carts.  He enjoyed putting motors in them and fixing them up.  He kept a couple at James’ house and enjoyed going out there or to Erin’s to ride them.

Darrell was also a hard worker.  During his high-school years Darrell worked at Pizza Inn.  In 1997 he started working in the Food Department at Newton Medical Center, where he continued to work for over 25 years. He enjoyed his work and the people he worked with.

After a short battle with cancer, Darrell passed away August 16, 2023 at Newton Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.  Darrell is survived by his mom Arlene Corfman, sister Pamela (Curtis) Schmidt, brothers James Mosiman and Rodney Mosiman, stepsister Jolene (Miles) Erpelding, stepbrothers Gene Corfman and Jim Corfman, five nephews, three nieces, four great-nieces, and four great-nephews.  He was preceded in death by his dad Aaron Mosiman, stepdad Dean Corfman, grandparents Floyd and Mary Gates and Ernest and Justina Mosiman, sister-in-law Michelle Mosiman, and great-niece Brooklyn Bogel.
