Darrell Eugene Cusick, 72, of Newton, Kansas, passed away on May 7, 2026 at NMC Health.

Darrell was born February 8, 1954, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Marvin LeRoy Cusick and Lovella Eldora Trober. He graduated from high school in Ashland in 1972.

He married Quilma Lee Bliss (Herndon) on October 27, 1972, in Ashland, Kansas.

Darrell joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1972-1979, and was stationed in Germany for several years. While in Germany, sons Brandon Cusick and Micah Cusick were born.

After leaving the service, Darrell and Quilma moved to Coldwater and then to Garden City. They later divorced, but remained friends.

Darrell worked as an HVAC technician for many years, and later made his home in Newton. He attended Newton Christian Church for several years.

Darrell is survived by his sons, Brandon (Tisha) Cusick of Newton, and Micah (Cari) Cusick of Newton; grandchildren, Bryan (Brilee) Cusick, Gavin Cusick, Mackenzie Cusick, McKennah Cusick, Emma Cusick, and Bess Cusick; great-grandson, Remington Cusick; and siblings, Diana Gordon, Terry Cusick, and Ramon (Becky) Cusick.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service for Darrell will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 9:00 AM at Newton Christian Church. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM at Appleton Township Cemetery in Minneola, Kansas. Friends may pay respects at visitation on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, Kansas.
