As a teenager he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On April 23, 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Shari Nadine( Voth) Sattler. They were married for 60 years, parted only by his death.

He is survived by his wife Shari, three children; Kathryn (Richard) Hall of Newton, Ks, Jeffrey Sattler of Cortez, Co, and Scott (Cindy) Sattler of Newton, Ks. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Christopher Hall of Marion, Ks, Krystle (Hall) Walker of Goessel, Ks, Darrel E Sattler of Newton, Ks, Samantha (Sattler) Weerts of Burns, Ks, Dustin Sattler of Cortez, Co, and Shawna (Sattler) James of Lake Havasu City, Az, and eleven great-grandchildren. He enjoyed his family, the children were all special to him.

Darrel was a hard working man who farmed for a number of years. Then he got interested in hauling cattle to market with a semi-truck, which he did for several years. He enjoyed trucking and purchased his own equipment. He found his niche hauling produce and other freight over the road.

For about 40 years he traveled the highways, and enjoyed the people he met along the way. He also repaired and maintained his small fleet of trucks. The only ‘hobby’ he had was mounting and rotating truck tires on the equipment. This was an every weekend project.

He always said the same thing as good-bye when leaving on a trip: “See you in the funny pages.”

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, September 18, 2020 at 10:00AM at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Private family burial is scheduled for a later date.
