Charles M Brackeen

October 12, 1947 — September 3, 2025

Rose Hill

Beloved Pastor, Charles Murl Brackeen, 77, of Rose Hill, Kansas, left this world for his heavenly home on September 3rd, 2025. Born on October 12th, 1947, in Newton, Kansas, to evangelical parents, Arthur Murl Brackeen and Thelma Francis (Dooley) Brackeen. Chuck grew up in Newton, sharing his parents’ passion for spreading love and the word of God alongside his seven siblings, Ann, Danny, Herb, Steve, Donna, Buddy and Mike. At age 14 he was a called chosen vessel to preach the gospel. He ministered until age 18. He earned his bachelor’s degree from WSU and owned several businesses over his early adulthood. Before his father passed away Chuck rededicated his life to ministry and became the Pastor of The Church God of The Firstborn at 10th & Oak in Newton, Kansas.

A dedicated Christian and pillar of his community, he was a loving husband, a devoted father, and an amazing Papa. Chuck met the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Crawford, in March of 1966 and 3 short months later he married her on May 28, 1966. After his marriage Chuck enlisted in the United States Army National Guard and served his country in the US Army National Guard and the US Army for a total of 8 years. They moved to Rose Hill, Kansas, in 1974. Together, they raised 3 wonderful sons who brought them tremendous joy. Chuck’s family was always his pride and joy. He was always willing to go above and beyond for them. He cherished his 13 grandchildren and his 11 great-grandchildren, always delighting them with treats or small gifts. His grands and greats were always thrilled to visit “Papa & Nana,” never leaving empty-handed.

Beyond his family, Chuck’s church family was his “second family.” He served God by serving others, always ready to lend an ear, offer a prayer, or share a meal. Chuck was a pastor 24/7 until his final breath. His willingness to help those in need brought him immense joy.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Liz, his children, Sonny (Penny), Paul, and Bryan (Kelly), his 13 grandchildren, and his 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Thelma, his siblings, Buddy, Dan, and Steve.

The community and family mourns the loss of this remarkable man and celebrates his legacy of love and service that will endure.
