Bonnie D. (Smith) Baumgartner, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, at her home in Newton, Kansas. She was born on October 9, 1937, in Newton, the beloved daughter of Edwin and Vivian (Sheffler) Smith.

On May 14, 1954, Bonnie married the love of her life, Robert Wesley Baumgartner. They shared 68 years of marriage before Bob’s passing in 2022, building a life centered on faith, family, and love.

Bonnie dedicated many years of service working as a ward clerk at Halstead Hospital before retiring. She was well known for her many talents and generous heart. An excellent cook, she found great joy in hosting meals and gatherings for family and friends. She also loved gardening and took special pride in her role as a grandmother. A gifted seamstress, Bonnie lovingly made countless garments for family and friends over the years, each stitch reflecting her care and thoughtfulness.

Bonnie will be remembered for her strong Christian faith and deep love for Jesus, as well as for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her. Her gentle spirit and servant’s heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Lorri (Michael) Fortna, Bob (Wendy) Baumgartner, and Paul (Minde) Baumgartner; sister, Joyce Gough; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Vivian Smith; husband, Robert “Bob” Baumgartner; daughters, Rhonda Roberts and Rita Jean Baumgartner; and sister, Sue Annette.

At this time, no services are scheduled. Memorial contributions in Bonnie’s name may be made to Cross Point Free Will Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas, and may be mailed to the family, the church, or Petersen Funeral Home.
