Beverly J. Gering 94 died August 30, 2025, at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton, Kansas. She was born April 23, 1931, in Wichita, Kansas to Howard and Theora (Dix) Hanson. She married Richard Brenneman on February 24, 1951, they were later divorced and he preceded her in death 2017. She married Douglas L. Gering on December 28, 1990, and he preceded her in death in 2003.
A 1950 graduate of Newton High School, Beverly was the former longtime director of Trinity Heights Respite Care in Newton. She started her working career in Newton in 1949 at the Hofen Market and continued a career of service to the Newton community in various positions and work until her retirement in 2009. She served on the Newton City Commission from 1991 to 1997 and held the position of Mayor of Newton from 1992 to 1993
Bev achieved many civic and work honors in her career including Newton Woman of the Year in 1982. She was active in the BPW (Business and Professional Women) from 1977, Life member of the VFW Auxiliary, Volunteer at Newton Medical Center and past member of the Harvey County United Way Board of Directors, to name just a few of the many varied committees, activities and Boards that Bev served her the Newton community with her time and expertise.
Her greatest joy was her family, she enjoyed spending time with her loving family and especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons Tom Brenneman and Robert (Bob) Brenneman; daughter Paula J. Anderson; 4 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Bev is preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, her former husband Richard and 2nd husband Douglas
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2025, at Petersen Funeral Home, the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A gathering with friends will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2025, at First United Methodist Church Parish Hall in Newton. Private family interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton.
Memorials may be written to First United Methodist Church or Trinity Heights Respite Care and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home
