Betty Adams 94, was born February 7, 1928 in McPherson County, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Lewis H. Wilhelm and Clara F. Ensminger.  She was the 10th of 12 children in the family. She died March 5, 2022 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas

She moved to Newton, Kansas to live with her sister in 1944 to finish high school, graduating Newton High School in 1946.  Then, Betty went to Cosmetology school in Salina, returning to Newton to work as a hairdresser for forty-five years.

Betty had a friend who just so happened to be a niece of her future husband, Melvin Adams.  They were introduced, fell in love, and eventually married on December 5, 1948, establishing their home in Newton, KS.  Together they had five children, Larry Melvin Adams (stillborn), Melva Lea Caldwell (Newton, KS), Kenneth Wayne Adams (infant death), L.J. Adams, wife, Brenda (Streetman, TX), and Rick Adams, (Arlington, TX).

She loved hearing about all the activities of her grandchildren as they were growing up and years later, she tried keeping up with all the Great Grandchildren that she was blessed to have. Rodd Caldwell and wife, Heather, children Helen, Lily, and Garrison (Lucas, TX), Alyson Voran and husband, Shane, daughters Skylar and Rylee (Lehigh, KS), Jason Adams, wife, Courtney, children, McKenzie, Hunter, and Brady (Arlington, TX), Joshua Adams, wife, Brooke, children, Georgia, Cash, Vann, Satcher and Saylor (Arlington, TX), Jordan Adams, wife Jennifer, children Jaden, Jett, and Jax (Plano, TX), Chloe Aduddell, husband, Kevin, daughters, Kinsey, Kirby, Caitlyn, and Cassie (Richardson, TX), Hope Adams (Dallas, TX), and Molly Adams (Arlington, TX).  All told, she loved to count them up for a total of eight grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by eight sisters, three brothers, her husband, Melvin, and two infant sons.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Taylor in California and many nieces and nephews from Kansas, California, Nevada, Texas, Missouri, Connecticut, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, KS and a member of the UM Women and Rachel Circle.  She loved life, her family, her profession, and was, as she called herself, a “people-person”.
