  • Arthur Dwyane Whillock, 70, of Newton, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 14, 2026. Born on November 14, 1955, in Wichita, Kansas, Arthur lived a life dedicated to education, family, and his many passions.

    Arthur grew up in Wichita and attended Wichita Public Schools. During and after high school he joined his father in the construction business in both Wichita and Tulsa, Oklahoma. He pursued higher education at Wichita State University, earning a degree in Teacher Education and later a Masters in Educational Administration. He began his career teaching sixth grade at Santa Fe Middle School. After receiving his administrative certification, he served as the assistant principal at Santa Fe Middle School, and then the principal at South Breeze, Slate Creek, and Northridge Elementary Schools in Newton, Kansas. He loved working with kids and was known for meeting and greeting his students at the front door in the morning and sending them home in the afternoon. His investment in education left a lasting impact on those he worked with throughout his career.

    Arthur was a man of many interests. He had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, which he captured through his photography. Fishing and camping were among his favorite pastimes, allowing him to connect with the outdoors that he so cherished. A lifelong learner, Arthur also enjoyed reading and studying Native American history, immersing himself in the rich cultural heritage that fascinated him.

    Known for his quick wit and warm personality, Arthur never met a stranger. His kindness and preparedness were hallmarks of his character, endearing him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Above all else, Arthur treasured his family. He shared a special bond with his grandson Cooper and made it a priority to spend meaningful time with him.

    Arthur is survived by his wife, Doris; son, William, and wife, Sarah; cherished grandson, Cooper; and brother, Bob Whillock, and wife, Dee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Faye Whillock and Mackie Jo Roberts; as well as his sister, Joyce Allen; and grandson, Thatcher.

    A memorial service will be held at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton, Kansas, on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Petersen Funeral Home to be used towards a college fund for Cooper Whillock.
