Arlen D. Anderson, a devoted husband, father, and respected member of the Newton community, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, at Kidron Bethel in North Newton, Kansas. Born on May 26, 1934, in Newton, Arlen’s life was a testament to dedication, service, and a genuine love for his community and family.

A proud graduate of Newton High School in 1952, Arlen furthered his education at Emporia State University, where he demonstrated his spirited nature as a cheerleader for various sports teams. His youthful enthusiasm extended beyond academics, including a fondness for duck and pheasant hunting, which reflected his appreciation for the outdoors.

Arlen’s career was marked by steadfast commitment and professional integrity. Beginning in 1983, he owned and operated Anderson Appraisal in Newton for over thirty years, providing expert property and real estate appraisals throughout Harvey County and its surrounding areas. His honest work and dedication earned him the respect and trust of many within the community.

Not only was Arlen a committed businessman, but he also proudly served his country in the United States Army. 

A man who found joy in both work and leisure, Arlen cherished travel and was especially enamored with New Mexico, where he delighted in playing golf on numerous courses. He eagerly anticipated outings on the golf course with his beloved wife, Paula (Brenneman) Anderson, and friends, valuing these moments of camaraderie and relaxation.

Arlen attended First Presbyterian Church in Newton.  Family was central to his heart; he looked forward to spending quality time with those he loved.

He is survived by his wife Paula; his sons Chris Anderson and Michael Anderson; stepson Jason Schmidt; his brother Steve (Shelly) Anderson; sisters Joyce (Arnie) McCloud, Jolene Anderson, and LeAnna (Timothy) Reimer. Arlen’s legacy continues through his nine grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren, who carry forward his memory and spirit.

He was preceded in death by his father Eldo Anderson, mother Lola M. (Price) Anderson, brother Loren Anderson, and daughter Amy Anderson.

A visitation and time of gathering and sharing will be held on April 8, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Petersen Family Funeral Home, located at 215 N Main St, Newton, KS 67114. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a time of sharing and stories about Arlen beginning at 7:00 p.m. Chaplain Dawn Yoder Harms from Kidron Bethel Village will the time of sharing. 

The family will have a private interment service at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. 

Arlen D. Anderson’s life was marked by service—to his country, his community, and his family. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, a lasting tribute to a man whose dedication and warmth touched many.
